Holiday Hands with the United Way

It's a studio tradition for the past 3 years to participate in the United Way's "Holiday Hands" program, and we are set to begin again for 2011.

In coordination with the United Way, High Bridge Pilates & Yoga and its students

'adopt' families in Hunterdon County that are in dire need & don't have extra money to celebrate the holidays.

They are regular clients of the agency who always need assistance, but especially at the holidays

We post their wish lists in Studio A, which is the master list. Choose one or two gifts that you commit to purchasing and write your name next to them on the list so we know that they have been taken care of. You can find the wish list here. But please mark your name on the studio master list in Studio A.

If you aren't a regular student or won't be at the studio in the next 2 weeks, please just email Nancy what you commit to buy and i'll put your name on the studio master list.

The details...

  1. Purchase the gift(s) - they need to remain unwrapped - mark the Client Family# on a gift tag and attach to gift - feel free to include more of a holiday letter to them as well - the families love personal notes from donors to know that they care.
  2. Return the gift(s) to the studio by December 7th - drop them off in the large boxes in the Waiting Area.
  3. We will play Santa and deliver the presents to the United Way office in Flemington on Thursday, December 8th - it's a large undertaking so anyone interested can help us bring them over that afternoon

This is an amazing opportunity to serve the community and know that you are helping someone specific in need at the holiday - it's much more rewarding than just writing a check to an agency - your generosity and compassion are directly felt by another human being

We hope this helps to bring lots of gratitude to your holidays - when you start your holiday shopping on black friday, bring along your list of items to buy for the families - thinking about people living at the poverty level really keeps things in perspective when we start stressing over finding the perfect present for our friends and families.

Caught in the Frustration Cycle?

Photo: Motifake.com
If you are tired of your frustrations, come expose yourself to some radical perspectives on dealing with how things are instead of trying to change everything around you.

You are invited to an afternoon with Gary & Radha Bello at High Bridge Pilates and Yoga as they read from their new book, Enlightening Moments, followed by a discussion session and a booksighning. Refreshments will be served.

Enlightening Moments: Living Beyond the Frustration Cycle has the power to transform every area of your life. Instead of trying to change what's going on around you, this book introduces a new perspective that inspires refreshing responses to the way things are. Being able to recognize your patterns and take full responsibility for your reactions leads you down a clear path to the root cause of the issue--to the source of surprising insight and profound understanding.

Thai Yoga Therapy comes to High Bridge Pilates & Yoga

Thai Yoga Therapy
High Bridge Pilates & Yoga - Thai Therapy Yoga is coming to High Bridge Pilates & Yoga! We're kicking it off in November by offering special introductory sessions with Lusmila McColl. The 20-minute sessions are being offered at a special price of $20. All sessions are booked by appointment only. Regular sessions run for one hour and are $85.

Nuad Borarn Vedic Thai Assisted Yoga Therapy is practiced fully-clothed and in a one-on-one session. It is viewed as a martial art of healing and is reported to manifest instant positive results both physically and emotionally.

In Thailand, this bodywork is utilized medicinally as a cherished and revered indulgence to remedy ailments such as emotional stress and physical inertia. Nuad Borarn sessions inspire the soul and tranquilize the body.

An amazing enhancement to your regular yoga practice as the practitioner physically assists in stretching, releasing and elongating the body through certain postures and yoga poses.

Great for students looking for more range of motion or who are stiff and inflexible.

Nuad Borarn
  • Revitalizes and balances cerebral (emotional) and somatic (physical) ailments instantly.
  • Enhances the quality of living by opening congested chakras (dormant reservoirs of bio-spiritual power) and clearing nadis (electro-magnetic meridian pathways).
  • Performed on a large comfortable memory-foam floor mat which gives the client both comfort and full body support.
  • works far beneath the surface of the body, effecting the deeper layers of the muscles and skeleton.
  • is modified to sensitivities addressing acute and chronic conditions, including: herniated disks, subluxations, muscle strain, joint replacements, surgeries, and pregnancy.

About Lusmila McColl

There are a limited number of therapists in NJ trained in this ancient bodywork, and Lusmila is certified by the internationally known, World Massage Hall of Fame Therapist, Michael "Muki" Buck. "Mukti" is the founder and master teacher at the Vedic Conservatory in Florida. Lusmila is also a Massage Therapist, Kundalini yoga enthusiast, and eco, ethical, sustainable fashion designer who has practiced Kundalini Yoga and meditation for teh past 12 years. Dogs Practicing Yoga in Hong Kong

IOL News: "Hong Kong's pampered canines may have their own spas complete with jacuzzis and massage, but it can still be difficult for a dog to find inner peace. Help is now at hand in the shape of yoga instructor Suzette Ackermann and her yoga class - for dogs.

Each Saturday morning in the city's Sheung Wan district, owners massage their pets before bringing them into postures such as the cobra pose, in which the hind legs are stretched out to the rear, as soothing music plays.
“You want to try and calm the dog down, so just touch along either side of the spine, then the rib cage, then the belly,” Ackermann - a South African dance and yoga teacher who started the sessions a year ago - tells the class.
She leads the class in tandem with her seven-year-old Pekinese, Snowball, who, Ackermann told AFP, has been her inspiration.
The one-eyed, utterly relaxed animal with fluffy white fur has become a local celebrity through dog yoga, and is often recognised in the street from her TV appearances.
“Snowball's like a Zen Buddha,” Ackermann says. “She goes into all the poses... She just doesn't care, which is perfect in the yoga sense that she has no ego, no attachment, she's just present.
“When I practise (yoga) at home, she will just come up to the mat with me. She does it naturally.
“You can lie her down on her back to do shavasana (corpse pose), and she'll stay there.”Hong Kong's pampered canines may have their own spas complete with jacuzzis and massage, but it can still be difficult for a dog to find inner peace.
